word-of-the-author was that rictor was gay and definitely not bi for
exactly the same arguments that bendis used years later for iceman??? i
can’t even parse the emotions i’m feeling right now because the main
reason i was mad that iceman wasn’t bi was because it felt exactly like
what they’d done with rictor

writer and whatever editorial oversight there is for the letter column
have forgotten rictor’s canon sexual orientation and assumed
that he was bi because he’s had relationships with both men and women??
which is literally the reason people want iceman to be bi???
but ALSO also now i have an x-men writer’s word that rictor is bi so maybe i should just take that to the bank
This writer clearly knew absolutely nothing of Rictor, or intentionally ignored it. Made him flirt with the mentor he had as a child, called ‘Star “quiet stoic type” and made Ric say it’s the kind of guy he needs, decided he was bi (when he was written as historically closeted) and all of this in order to defend the portrayal they were cashing on and make it appear unprecedented. The “breakup” was random and specifically made so Bobby could have this type of failed flirt with another lgbt mutant character and there weren’t many to use.
